POWER WHEELCHAIRS

Majors Mobility offers power wheelchairs from a wide range of suppliers:

Mid-wheel, rear-wheel, and front-wheel drive models all offer different advantages to the user, depending upon his/her medical needs and home environment.  Different seating systems and options allow a power wheelchair to be configured to meet the medical positioning needs or style preferences of every user.

Transportable power chairs can offer some users the capacity to fold or disassemble the power wheelchair for transport in a van or car without installing a wheelchair lift.

Large capacity power wheelchairs can meet the mobility needs of bariatric patients weighing up to 650 pounds.

We can outfit your power wheelchair with  a power lift, tilt or recline seating system, depending on the specific model capabilities.

Majors Mobility accepts insurance assignment on most manual and power wheelchairs. We process the paperwork and submit the claim directly to most major insurance carriers.

NOTE TO MEDICARE RECIPIENTS: If you have Medicare, a power wheelchair may be covered if you need a power wheelchair to get perform activities of daily living (such as cooking, cleaning, bathing, dressing, toileting etc..) within your residence because of a medical problem that limits your ability to walk and you are unable to self-propel in a manual wheelchair and can not use a scooter.  Your physician will be required to document the need for a power wheelchair in order to submit your claim for payment.  We can help with this and all the other paperwork to make it as easy on you as possible.

The typical process for obtaining a power wheelchair through Medicare goes like this:

Schedule an appointment; then visit with your doctor to talk over your need for a power wheelchair (why you need it in your home and why you can’t use a manual wheelchair or a scooter). If the doctor agrees and can document your need for the equipment, have him/her write an initial order (RX).
Call Majors Mobility for an in-home assessment and evaluation. Majors will request copies of your doctor’s chart notes that support the need for the power wheelchair.
Majors will visit you in your home to help determine the best equipment for you, your environment, your goals, and your lifestyle.
Majors will send/fax a detailed equipment list to your doctor to sign.
Once the paperwork is returned completed and you qualify, we will order your power wheelchair or set up delivery from a power wheelchair in our stock.

A SECOND NOTE TO MEDICARE RECIPIENTS:  Recently, Medicare changed the coverage policies to require that your physician assess your power mobility needs more specifically.  If you can not perform your activities of daily living and can not self propel a manual wheelchair, you may be eligible for a scooter or a power wheelchair.  What is the difference between the two?
